Impossible to train: Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca stops his Club World Cup training short due to severe weather

The Blues will play their last CWC 2025 group game against ES Tunis.
According to Enzo Maresca, the heat is making it “almost impossible to train,” which could hurt Chelsea’s chances of winning the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
As the temperature approached 40 degrees Celsius, the Blues manager shortened his final practice before their pivotal Group D matchup with ES Tunis.
When they play early on Wednesday, at 9 p.m. local time, it is still expected to be well above 30 degrees Celsius because Philadelphia is under a “Code Red” severe weather alert. It could also affect the performance of the North Londoners in their last group stage game.
During a quick tactical exercise, Chelsea sprayed hot players with cold water using enormous fans on the players who couldn’t bear the heat during the training.
Enzo Maresca reveals he had to cut his Chelsea training short due to severe heat
Maresca stated:
“It is almost impossible to train because of the weather. We are just trying to save energy for the game. This morning’s session has been very, very short.”
“It’s been just about tomorrow’s game, planning for tomorrow and that’s it. It’s not easy in these conditions with these temperatures. We are going to try to do our best.”
The Blues would advance to the knockout round with a draw, and their likely matchup is against Harry Kane‘s Bayern Munich on Saturday. Reece James, the captain of Chelsea, was unwell and missed training.
Maresca further said:
“It’s difficult to work in these temperatures but we are trying our best and will try to win tomorrow.
“It’s impossible to do a normal session, otherwise you don’t save energy for the game. So the session this morning was quite short. We are not training, almost. We are just doing very, very, very short sessions.
“We try just to be clinical and do the right things that we need for game preparation. We have the cooling break during the game which helps a little.”
Nicolas Jackson did not attend training since he was banned following his red card during the 3-1 loss to Flamengo.
