The Blues’ path to the competition final has become less difficult.
Chelsea now have a greater chance to win the 2025 Club World Cup, or at least go to the final, thanks to Man City & Inter Milan’s exit from the tournament.
On Saturday night, Chelsea defeated Benfica in the first round of the Club World Cup knockout stages, but it was anything but simple or dramatic!
The Blues are now the only English team participating in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 after defeating Benfica in the round of 16 to guarantee their spot in the quarterfinals.
Chelsea will face Palmeiras in the quarterfinals of FIFA Club World Cup 2025
Although there have been many possible upsets and no easy games in these events, west Londoners have a favourable matchup against Palmeiras this weekend, and if they win, they will have avoided seeing some of the major opponents.
They did so by defeating Botafogo, their domestic rivals, 1–0 in extra time. The Copa Libertadores champions held Palmeiras at bay in the first half, but the Verdão advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to a fantastic solo goal from Paulinho, who scored his second goal of the competition.
Chelsea’s semi-final opponent in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025

The Blues would face either Fluminense or Al-Hilal if they made it to the semi-finals because Fluminense defeated Inter Milan and Al-Hilal defeated Manchester City 4-3 overnight.
The Premier League side will undoubtedly prefer to play one of these teams over, say, City or Inter, even though none of these matches will be simple. Therefore, one can only conclude that Chelsea’s journey to the final is suddenly considerably more favourable.
Chelsea’s possible final opponent in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025
Paris Saint-Germain are the nightmare opponent for Enzo Maresca’s side, who may face in the final of the Club World Cup. But they have a lot of preparation to do before they need to worry about the main event.
Potential opponents include the previously mentioned Bayern Munich, who advanced further in the tournament after defeating Blues slayers Flamengo 4–2 in the round of 16. They will now face the European champs, though.
Real Madrid, who play Juventus in the round of 16, have shown promise in the United States this summer. If Xabi Alonso’s team beats the Italians, they will be looking to reach the final and lift the trophy.
