Lionel Messi will return to MetLife stadium where he lost the 2016 Copa America final to Chile.

In their first-ever Copa America 2024 meeting with Peru, Chile got off to a strong start as Alexis Sanchez had numerous opportunities to break the scoreless deadlock. Prior to the competition, there were some worries regarding Chile’s lack of games, but their first-half display silenced them.

Sadly, Chile‘s lack of involvement may have contributed to their collapse in the second half as they appeared to tire out as a squad.

In the tournament opener, the teams were tied 0-0 at the half, as Canada pushed Argentina with everything they had. However, a goal from Julian Alvarez in the 49th minute marked the beginning of Argentina’s potent offence. In order to complete the 2-0 victory, Lautaro Martinez extended the advantage in the 88th minute.

Argentina’s story continues, and they have a chance to win this group and place first. After taking home the 2022 World Cup and 2021 Copa America, they have the opportunity to become the second country to win three major championships in a row.
