Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr deal will expire at the end of the season.
Lionel Messi will compete in the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins next month. However, is former Real Madrid great Cristiano Ronaldo preparing to play in the tournament as well?
We look at three clubs where Ronaldo can play that will compete in the summer event. His contract with Al-Nassr expires next month, making him a free agent. This still leaves the possibility of making things happen. He may decide to leave early to sign with a team for the Club World Cup.
3. Chelsea
Given that Todd Boehly has a history of being interested in signing Ronaldo and that the Club World Cup is approaching, Chelsea might be persuaded to lure the striker to the club for the tournament in the summer. However, his signing could prove to be questionable given that he is not at his prime. His age is also another factor.
It would be intriguing to see if the Blues will be eager to sign the player on a short-term contract, even though the Chelsea connections have reappeared in recent months. Cristiano Ronaldo would be eager to represent the team and compete in the summer.
2. Fluminense
With the opportunity to play in the FIFA Club World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo has apparently received an alluring offer to leave Saudi football. Even though the Manchester United legend won the top scorer award for two years in a row, team trophies have mostly eluded him during his time in the Middle East.
A Brazilian team has made Ronaldo a substantial transfer offer, Marca revealed, which might allow the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to play in the summer event despite his uncertain future. Ahead of the campaign, Fluminense are one of the teams that has indicated interest in signing the player.
1. Palmeiras
Another club that can bring the Portuguese icon are Palmeiras. They are one of the most successful clubs in Brazil. Given that they have dominated the Serie A and are continuing the tradition this season as well, they will be one of the favourites in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in the summer.
They can mull over the acquisition of Cristiano Ronaldo, as many Brazilian clubs have attracted big European players in the past years. With Neymar Jr. and Memphis Depay currently playing in the top division, Brazil is also seeing its fair share of elite European talent move to the South American nation. Since Ronaldo’s future is still up in the air, it will be interesting to watch if he becomes the next player to travel to Brazil.
