The forward was expected to be back in November.
Cole Palmer will be unavailable for six more weeks, which is a serious injury blow to Chelsea. Palmer has a groin injury since August. On September 20, he made it worse during Chelsea’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United.
The 23-year-old missed England’s most recent international matches after his injury worsened following his appearance against United.
Palmer set to be out for SIX more weeks
Cole Palmer’s setback has been confirmed by Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, who had hoped to see the vital midfielder return as the team resumes Premier League play.
“I was wrong [about Cole Palmer],” Maresca said ahead of their trip to Nottingham Forest. “Unfortunately he needs to be out for six more weeks.”
“We try to protect Cole as much as we can. The most important thing is when he comes back, he is fully fit.”
“The medical staff are not magicians. We hope six weeks are enough. We need to see it step-by-step. For sure, he’s going to be okay. He looks relaxed. He has tried to recover from the injury and is doing all the therapy.”
Cole Palmer’s injury came after Chelsea’s win in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the US during the summer. Despite being sidelined for a portion of their UEFA Conference League winning campaign, he played more than 50 times across all competitions last season.
Other Chelsea player injury news
However, there are some encouraging news for Maresca. After withdrawing from the England squad as a precaution, club captain Reece James has been cleared to play at the City Ground. Wesley Fofana, Andrey Santos, and Tosin Adarabioyo are also back in the running. Meanwhile Benoit Badiashile will be sidelined until December due to a muscular problem.
Chelsea are five points below league leaders Arsenal in seventh place in the Premier League standings. Due to a one-match suspension, head coach Maresca will be on the sidelines against Nottingham Forest.
