Conor Gallagher exiled from Chelsea first team; Atletico Madrid await midfielder's decision on transfer

The England international has only one year left on his Blues contract.
Conor Gallagher has been informed by Chelsea that he is no longer a member of the first team. Atletico Madrid had made a £33 million proposal for the midfield player, which the Blues accepted. But Gallagher would only depart on his own terms.
Due to his dissatisfaction with the length of the contract, Gallagher, whose contract expires in 2025, has turned down two recent offers from Chelsea for a two-year extension.
The 24-year-old has been informed by the Blues that after their tour of the US, he will not be working with the main squad.
In an effort to settle Gallagher’s future, they will speak with him on Friday. Their most recent contract offer is still on the table.
The England international was photographed on Friday at Cobham. Conor Gallagher has not yet entered into negotiations with Atletico Madrid, who are hoping to hear back from him by the conclusion of the weekend.
Given that players like Moises Caicedo recently signed eight-year contracts, Gallagher feels he should be awarded a long-term contract after starting 37 matches in the Premier League for the Blues last season.
The midfielder who has played for Chelsea since he was eight years old filled in as captain during Reece James’ injury the previous season.
With his possession-based approach to play, Gallagher is not expected to be a regular first-team starter for Chelsea under new boss Enzo Maresca in the upcoming season.
While they are unable to provide Gallagher with any assurances over playing time, there are worries that making an offer of an extended deal would be an expensive error.
If they can’t come to new terms with Gallagher, the West London club does not want to lose him on a free transfer in the summer of 2025. Gallagher will only relocate to the Wanda Metropolitano if the conditions are suitable for him, according to earlier reports.
