The Portuguese star’s deal expires at the end of this season.

Till now, Cristiano Ronaldo’s time at Al Nassr in Riyadh has not been at all like the trophy-laden stint he and the club’s supporters had in mind. Ronaldo hasn’t won a major championship with his Saudi team since moving here more than two seasons ago, which is a sad chapter in his remarkable career.

His squad suffered disappointments this season again, losing to Kawasaki Frontale in the AFC Champions League Elite’s semifinal, losing to Al Hilal 4-1 in the Supercoppa Saudi Arabia final, and losing to Al Taawon in the King’s Cup Round of 16. Furthermore, Al Nassr are 11 points below the championship leader, Al Ittihad, with three league games left, making a league title this year doubtful.

The absence of trophies has heightened speculation that Cristiano Ronaldo could leave. As of May 14, no formal talks appeared to be in progress for an extension of his existing contract, which is scheduled to expire in just forty-five days. According to people close to the club, financial concerns may be the cause for the lack of discussions.

Tax benefits are one of the primary factors behind Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential departure, according to the Portuguese publication A Bola.

Cristiano Ronaldo would forfeit substantial tax breaks, which are a crucial component of his decision-making process, after completing two years of residency in Saudi Arabia. According to reports, this tax requirement is a major barrier that is postponing any possible renewal talks.

Ronaldo’s athletic achievements are still impressive; he is getting close to reaching his target of 1,000 career goals, which he planned to accomplish before retiring.

But he hasn’t won a formal championship in more than four years; his most recent victory was with Juventus in the Coppa Italia on May 19, 2021. Now, he hill will hope to add another significant honour before thinking about retiring.

Sporting de Lisboa, where Cristiano Ronaldo started his career and made his first division debut, are closely monitoring the situation in the meantime. Sources claim that the Lisbon team is still hoping to sign Ronaldo during the next European transfer window.

Sporting are getting ready for a title matchup with Vitoria and are at present tied with Benfica for the top spot in the Primeira Liga.
