Cristiano Ronaldo & Lionel Messi included in 2024 FIFPRO Men's World 11 shortlist
FIFPRo reveals a list of nominated players who will be selected in the best XI.
Messi, 37, and Ronaldo, 39, were the only players not playing for a European club to be selected for the Men’s World 11 shortlist, which was announced on Monday by the worldwide players’ organization FIFPRO.
No player from any South American or African club, nor from any Italian club, were chosen.
The 17-year-old Barcelona native Lamine Yamal, who was the breakthrough star of Spain’s European Championship victory, also appeared in the roster conducted by union members around the globe.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Pro League, and Lionel Messi, who plays for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer, will learn on December 9 if they are included in the World XI.
Seven of the eleven Premier League players chosen for the men’s 2024 Fifpro squad of the year are from Manchester City, the league’s champions.
The only team with more candidates than City is Real Madrid, the European champions, with eight, featuring Kylian Mbappe, who joined Real from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
Goalie Ederson, defenders Ruben Dias and Kyle Walker, midfielders Rodri, Kevin de Bruyne, Phil Foden, and forward Erling Haaland are the seven City players who have been nominated.
