Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi: Kevin De Bruyne picks who he'd like to play alongside

Many players dream of playing alongside Messi and Ronaldo in their careers.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne picks between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo when asked about who he’d rather play alongside. Arguably, every professional football player’s dream is to play with the two greatest players.

However, many players are not as fortunate as some. Players such as Paulo Dybala, Alejandro Garnacho, and Angel di Maria have been privileged to line up with both of the two greatest football players of all time during their careers.

The Belgian midfielder recently confirmed that he will leave Manchester City after the end of the season. He is also one of the players who has not yet had an opportunity to play alongside Messi and Ronaldo.

After an incredible ten years in England under Pep Guardiola’s leadership, he is now 33 years old. The midfielder has amassed 106 goals and 176 assists in 414 club games. He will likely leave as one of their best players ever.

Kevin De Bruyne was involved in the age-old GOAT question in 2023 when he was at the height of his abilities, but it had a twist. The Belgian was asked who he would want to play with, rather than which of the two was better.

Maybe to some surprise, Ronaldo was chosen over the brilliance of former Barcelona poster-boy Messi by Manchester City star, who is generally considered to be one of the best-attacking midfielders in the history of the beautiful game. He stated:

“I would say, probably Ronaldo, because he’s more of a typical striker.”

De Bruyne continued by explaining that he and Messi, the eight-time record Ballon d’Or winner, play the game similarly. “Messi continues to be more of a facilitator. You may give me a striker because I create plays.

Now, the former Chelsea star has been linked with a move to Saudi club Al-Nassr as well as Inter Miami. However, it has not been confirmed where the playmaker will end up playing next season as he is yet to make a final decision on his future.
