Joao Felix says Portugal need to win the World Cup for Ronaldo.

A sixth World Cup participation in 2026 could be the most dramatic goodbye in football history, and Portuguese sensation Cristiano Ronaldo is already preparing for it. The 39-year-old five-time Ballon d’Or winner hopes to collect the World Cup trophy, his ultimate desire.

In an interview with TNT Sports, Ronaldo’s national teammate João Félix expressed his belief in Ronaldo’s drive. “We will stop at nothing to fulfill Cristiano Ronaldo’s ambition of winning the World Cup. In 2026, I think he’ll be there,” Félix remarked.

Although the renowned forward, also known as “El Bicho,” has already solidified his legacy in football, the World Cup is still the one honour that has been absent from his remarkable career.

Ronaldo would become the only player to play in six World Cups if he participated in the 2026 tournament. He has maintained his competitiveness at the top football levels because of his commitment to fitness and performance for his age.

As the first male player to rack up goals in five straight tournaments, Ronaldo’s path has been full of memorable milestones. He has already represented Portugal in five World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022). Even Lionel Messi has represented Argentina in all those tournaments. Ronaldo has been steadfast in his resolve to bring the World Cup home, even after Portugal‘s early elimination in Qatar in 2022.

Excitement and anticipation for what might be Ronaldo’s most memorable moment in sports are heightened by João Félix’s statement. With the 2026 World Cup scheduled to be played in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Ronaldo has the opportunity to follow his passion and possibly win the biggest reward at the end of his career.

With now a year left for the competition Ronaldo will hope to remain at his peak fitness as he will turn 40 this year and for the next World Cup, he will be 41. It will be interesting to see if he will be at his best to lead Portugal once more.
