Cristiano Ronaldo reveals his son prefers Kylian Mbappe over him

Mbappe joined Ronaldo’s ex-club Real Madrid during the 2024 summer window.

Although many football fans believe Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest of all time, the Portuguese star has acknowledged that his own son likes Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid.

His 5-year-old son Mateo was unimpressed even though Ronaldo moved to the top of the division’s goal-scoring rankings with two goals in Al Nassr’s convincing Saudi Pro League victory over the weekend.

Ronaldo acknowledged that the France captain has outperformed him in his son’s eyes in an excerpt taken from an upcoming interview with Spanish publication La Sexta.

“Mateo, he really likes Mbappé,” Cristiano Ronaldo said. “He sometimes tells me: ‘Hey dad, Mbappé is better than you,’ and I reply by saying: ‘No, I am better than him, I have scored more goals.”

Mbappé currently has 15 goals in LaLiga after his hat-trick against Real Valladolid on Saturday, placing him second in the Pichichi race after Robert Lewandowski of Barcelona. During his time at the club, Ronaldo set a club high of 450 goals for Los Blancos.

After moving from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid this summer, Kylian Mbappé, who has frequently mentioned Ronaldo as his inspiration during his early years, has started to emulate some of the Portuguese player’s achievements.

After scoring a hat-trick last weekend, Mbappé now has 15 La Liga goals and 22 goals overall in his debut season with the team. CR7 had only made 35 appearances in all competitions due to injury, although he managed to score 33 goals in his debut season in Madrid.

Mbappé still has a chance to surpass Ronaldo’s goal total from his first season in the Spanish capital if he stays healthy.

Mbappe has now found his shooting boot after struggling to score in his first few months at the club. He is now gradually entering his rampant mode, which could see the Frenchman set new records in his rookie season.
