The forward will return to action tonight.

The all-time great Cristiano Ronaldo claims he has had “50,000 bad games” and that he “won’t play” if it means ensuring Portugal wins.

Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo is still available to be selected by his club and country at the age of forty. The Al-Nassr star has still been scoring goals steadily for his club. The player’s ambition is to score 1,000 goals overall before considering hanging up record-breaking boots.

Head coach Roberto Martinez keeps on depending largely on the extensive experience of a man who has seen and accomplished it all, despite questions about whether he should still be an established starter for Portugal despite having 218 caps.

Ronaldo’s performance in the UEFA Nations League first-leg defeat against Denmark drew criticism regarding whether the former Real Madrid should remain the starter for the national team.

Ronaldo says he would gladly step aside if it determined that Portugal would perform better as a team. Still he maintained that he will give his best when called upon. He has stated: “If I don’t score and someone else scores, it’s all the same to me. If Portugal has to win and I don’t play, I’ll sign my name right now, tell the coach and I won’t play. I’ll defend these colours until the death.”

Ronaldo knows that there will always be critics when his team performs poorly, and after the 1-0 loss to Denmark in the UEFA Nations League, more of them are speaking out. Prior to the second leg of the quarterfinal match, he stated: ”We can’t always play well, things don’t work out sometimes. I’ve played 50 thousand bad games, and so have my team-mates. All of that is part of it, the past is the past, it’s about uniting the troops and being positive.”

Tonight CR7 will return to their familiar surroundings as Portugal try to maintain their hopes of winning a Nations League title. They will play Denmark at Estadio Jose Alvalade, where Ronaldo’s childhood team, Sporting CP, are located.
