David Beckham & Gary Neville-led consortium completes Salford City takeover: Report

Both former Manchester United players successfully takeover over Salford City as part of a new consortium.
Gary Neville and David Beckham have successfully taken over Salford City. In 2014, Neville joined other members of Manchester United’s renowned Class of 92 to purchase club shares.
In 2019, Beckham became a member of the ownership team after acquiring a 10% share from Peter Lim, the company’s largest shareholder.
However, Paul Scholes, Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, and Nicky Butt have now given up ownership. In 2024, Lim also left, leaving Beckham and Neville, his best friend, to look for new funding.
They have discovered it in the form of Lord Mervyn Davies, the chairman of the Lawn Tennis Association, and Declan Kelly, the founder of the US-based advising business Consello, who will jointly serve as co-chairs of Salford’s board of directors.
In addition to an Indian sports technology company, the new ownership group consists of four additional businesspeople.
The Athletic claims that they have made investments ranging from £11 million to £15 million to support Salford’s sporting aspirations and infrastructure.
However, it is believed that Beckham and Neville are leading the operation and want to name a new CEO, meaning the consortium is not actively participating in day-to-day club operations.
Phil Neville, Butt, Giggs, and Scholes are anticipated to remain at Moor Lane in various non-stakeholder positions. After the former United players first joined, Salford experienced four promotions in five years.
Including the 2024–2025 season, they were in League Two for six straight seasons. The Ammies were only one point away from a play-off spot after finishing in eighth place.
Within the following five years, the new owners are reportedly aiming for two promotions, leading to the EFL Championship.
Moreover, the quartet will remain involved with the club in roles “across technical, football, commercial, recruitment and the SCFC foundation”.
“I’m so proud to be part of a new ownership group alongside my mate [Gary Neville] as we begin the next chapter of Salford’s journey,” Beckham, who turned 50 last week, posted on Instagram.
