US President Donald Trump is anticipated to play a significant role in the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw, which will take place in Washington on Friday. This will be the largest edition of football’s global extravaganza ever hosted.
From June 11 to July 19 of next year, the 48-team competition—up from the 32-nation field that participated in the 2022 Qatar World Cup—will take place in the US, Mexico, and Canada.

Trump will attend the 2026 World Cup draw

Donald Trump’s attendance was confirmed by the White House on Tuesday at the Kennedy Centre ceremony, which underlines his relationship with FIFA’s president Gianni Infantino, who has also accompanied the US president multiple times and even joined Trump at international summits. America’s bid to co-host the 2026 World Cup was awarded in 2018.
Due to Infantino’s close ties to Trump, it is highly anticipated that the US president will be crowned the inaugural winner of a new FIFA Peace Prize, which will be given out at the draw.
Donald Trump has made the World Cup the focal point of both the 250th anniversary of US independence next year and his second presidency.
However, he has not refrained from interfering with internal affairs, threatening to relocate World Cup games from Democratic-run areas if he finds the situation to be “unsafe.”
Meanwhile, Iran announced that it will boycott the draw due to US officials refusing to provide visas to some members of its delegation. It is a sign of the worldwide tensions surrounding a World Cup that will have 11 of its 16 locations in the US.
