The USA are one of the hosts for the 2026 World Cup.
When questioned about the cost of FIFA World Cup tickets in 2026, Donald Trump gave a scathing answer.
The US, co-hosts with Canada and Mexico, will begin their tournament hosting campaign on June 12th, with the opening game between Mexico and South Africa.
Since the announcement in March, ticket pricing has been a defining issue for the first World Cup to be contested in North America this century.
Fan organisations have labelled the price approach “extortionate,” but FIFA president Gianni Infantino recently justified it.
The cost of this year’s World Cup group stage matches is determined by the teams’ level of popularity. Group stage games used to have a set fee.
In an interview with the New York Post, Trump was questioned about the price of live game viewing.

Tickets for the USMNT‘s Group D opening match against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium are presently $1000 (£736). Donald Trump immediately said,
“I did not know that number.
“After hearing that sum. I would certainly like to be there, but I wouldn’t pay it either, to be honest with you.”
On the resale market, interested fans have to further pay exorbitant rates for tickets. Every ticket sold via FIFA’s official platform is subject to a 30% fee, of which 15% each goes from the buyer and seller.
Later, Donald Trump stated that he wants anyone who supported him in the 2024 presidential election to be free to go to whatever game they choose.
Before addressing ticket pricing more seriously, Infantino quipped that he would personally provide a “hot dog and Coke” to the individual who purchased such tickets.
