Ecuador predicted lineup for Argentina clash in Copa America 2024 quarter-final

The La Tri have all the tools to create a surprise against the reigning champions

Ecuador have shown promising signs in the Copa America so far but faces a difficult task against Argentina in the quarter-final. However, with young players like Kendry Paez and Sarmiento joining the attack alongside the experienced Enner Valencia, anything is possible for them.

Ecuador finished the group stage in second place but was lucky after Mexico were eliminated due to a poor goal difference. A goalless draw against Mexico in the final game was enough to seal their place in the quarterfinals.

GK: Alexander Dominguez

Alexander Dominguez is having a fine tournament between the sticks. He has played in all the group stages collecting one clean sheet while conceding three goals. CB: Félix Torres

Félix Torres is a commanding defender who is known for his interceptions and tackles. Torres is not that effective with the ball at his feet but does his duty effectively. He has been a rock for the team at the back making 6 recoveries, winning 21 duels including 3 tackles and interceptions each. Torres plays his club football for Corinthians in Brazil where he has emerged as a fan favourite due to his excellent defending. 

CB: William Pacho

William Pacho is one of the best defenders Ecuador have in their ranks after developing his game with Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. He put on a series of impressive performances in the group stage and will be hoping to make a similar impact against Argentina. His leadership at the back of the team has been top-notch, often stepping up for his fellow defenders. He finished the group stage with 4 recoveries, winning 15 duels and 7 aerial duels.

LB: Piero Hincapié

Piero Hincapié had a fantastic season with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. He created history with the team as they won the Bundesliga title and the DFB Pokal. He is a left-footed center-back who is equally adept from the left-back position. He opened his account with a goal against Jamaica which helped them secure the qualification. CM: Alan Franco

Alan Franco has developed an excellent partnership with Caicedo and midfield. Franco is excellent with the ball at his feet as he can dribble past opponents with ease. Franco is also dangerous from the edge of the box as he can score some outrageous long-range efforts.

He has made an all-round contribution in the group stage making 6 recoveries, 3 interceptions and has won 4 duels. He and Caicedo will be crucial for winning the midfield battle against them. 

CM: Moisés Caicedo

Moisés Caicedo is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world who has risen to the top in a very short time. After making a big move to Chelsea in the summer, he impressed at the back end of the season for them.

Caicedo is a destructor in the middle of the park as he doesn’t allow opponents to settle in the game. His stats from the group stage have been remarkable after making 16 recoveries, 4 tackles and 9 interceptions while also making two crucial blocks.

RW: John Yeboah

John Yeboah plays his club football for Rakow Czestochowa in Poland. Yeboah is known for his tenacious industry on the right-hand side as he also helps out his defense by doing his duties. He has made a good impact in the opening two matches but is yet to open his account for the team. He finished the group stage by creating one chance for the team while also attempting three shots. After being rested in the last match, he is likely to start the match for the team. 

CAM: Kendry Paez

The rising star from Ecuador has already made his name as one of the exciting talents in world football. Kendry Paez first caught the eye of the world with his performance for Independiente del Valle. Paez has already signed with Chelsea whom he will join next summer.

He has already impressed everyone with his performance in the group stage. He has attempted 10 shots while also scoring a goal against Jamaica. Keep an eye on him, as he can unlock the Argentina defense with ease. 

LW: Jeremy Sarmiento

The Brighton & Hove Albion man had an impressive campaign on loan last season at Ipswich Town. He helped them secure promotion back to the Premier League after an incredible campaign. Sarmiento has carried that form into the national team also after netting one goal in the group stage. He also helped the team defensively after making 13 recoveries and putting his body on the line by making two crucial blocks. 

ST: Enner Valencia

The record cap holder and goal-scorer, Enner Valencia has been with the team ever since breaking into the side in 2012. He has netted 41 goals since breaking into the side. Valencia has not been at his best in the competition after failing to score a single goal. Despite showing promising signs, he has to be at his best to help his nation against Argentina in a crucial match. With players like Paez and Sarmiento joining him, he can be a real threat in this match.
