The Tractor Boys will compete in the Premier League this season.

A lifelong supporter of Ipswich Town, Ed Sheeran has purchased a modest share of the team ahead of their Premier League return this season.

The British singer has purchased a 1.4% ownership position in Ipswich Town, the club said on Thursday. Despite this, the artist will only be a passive investor and will not sit on the board of directors. The deal’s worth was kept a secret by the club.

Since 2021, Sheeran, the most well-known fan of the team, has sponsored the Tractor Boys‘ shirts. According to the team, he will also have access to an executive box at Portman Road Stadium given his new role as a minority owner.

The famous singer said after acquiring stakes: “It’s any football fan’s dream to be an owner of the club they support, and I feel so grateful for this opportunity.

“I have lived in Suffolk since I was three years old and, while I travel the world and sometimes feel like an outsider in big cities, Suffolk and Ipswich have always made me feel part of the community and protected.

“It’s such a joy to be a fan of Ipswich Town. There are ups and downs but football is all about taking the highs and the lows. I’m not a voting shareholder or a board member, this is just me putting some money into the club I love and them returning the gesture, so please don’t get onto me with signing suggestions or tactics to play.

“I’m excited for the Premier League to start this weekend. Let’s go!”

For the first time since 2002, Ipswich Town are competing in the Premier League. On Saturday they take on Liverpool at home in their opening league match.

Ipswich Town report that Sheeran will now have free access to an executive box at Portman Road anytime he pleases. The ‘Shape Of You’ hitmaker is frequently seen at Ipswich. When the Reds visit this Saturday, he is expected to be present there to cheer for his team.
