The Reds have been owned by FSG since 2010.

The richest man in the world, Elon Musk, wants to purchase English football powerhouse Liverpool, according to his father.

Musk, 53, is well-known for being the owner of X (previously Twitter), the CEO of Tesla Motors, and a close friend of Donald Trump, the US president-elect. The South African tycoon has an incredible net worth of £340 billion.

In an interview with Times Radio, Elon’s father, Errol, disclosed his unexpected plans. He was asked, “Does your son want to buy Liverpool Football Club?”

Errol answered:

“I can’t comment on that, they’ll [current owners Fenway Sports Group] raise the price. Oh yes, [he has expressed a desire], but that doesn’t mean he’s buying it.”

Another question that was posed to Musk Sr. was whether buying the current Premier League leaders was “in his son’s sights.”

“He would like to. Yes, obviously. Anybody would want to – so would I,” Errol responded. “His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives in Liverpool, and we were fortunate to know quite a few of The Beatles because they grew up with some of my family. So, we are attached to Liverpool you know.”

Since 2010, FSG has owned Liverpool. According to Forbes’ most current valuation, the Reds are worth £4.3 billion, making them the fourth most valuable football club in the world.

FSG sold minority ownership to Dynasty Equity, a US capital firm, in September 2023. This was to assist in paying off debts brought on by a number of events, including the COVID-19 epidemic, Anfield’s renovation, and the club’s acquisition of the Melwood training facility.

“Our long-term commitment to Liverpool remains as strong as ever,” stated Mike Gordon, president of FSG, at the time of Dynasty Equity’s investment. ”We have consistently stated that we would seize the chance to support Liverpool’s long-term financial stability and future expansion if the proper investment partner were found.

This week, Musk rekindled a political controversy concerning groups of men who spent decades grooming and raping girls in England. In a string of tweets on X, the 53-year-old has accused UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and other high-ranking officials of hiding the scandal.
