England are searching their first Euro title.

England are all set to lock horns with Spain in the Euro 2024 final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on July 15, aiming to finally get their hands on the coveted international trophy.

The Three Lions finished the group stage as Group C table-toppers, beating Serbia and drawing against Denmark and Slovenia, with an unbeaten record of one win, two draws, two clean sheets, five points, two goals scored, and just one goal conceded.

During the knockout stages, England narrowly edged past underdogs Slovakia in the round of 16 with a 2-1 comeback win, courtesy of crucial goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane. This was followed by a thrilling 1-1 (5-3) penalty shootout win against dark horse Switzerland in a nerve-wracking quarterfinal. In the semifinal stage, the Three Lions toppled the Netherlands with another 2-1 comeback win, thanks to super sub Ollie Watkins’ last-minute winner, securing their place in the final for the second consecutive tournament.

Throughout the competition’s history, England has never managed to win a single Euro title. Over the 16 editions of the European Championships so far, England has reached just one final (Euro 2020), which they ultimately lost on penalties to champions Italy.

In Euro 2020, England was placed in Group D alongside Croatia, the Czech Republic, and Scotland. The Three Lions enjoyed an unbeaten group stage run, recording narrow 1-0 wins against Croatia and the Czech Republic, and a goalless draw against Scotland, finishing as the table-toppers with an impressive record of two wins, one draw, three clean sheets, seven points, and two goals scored.

In the round of 16, Gareth Southgate’s side defeated Germany 2-0 through second-half goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane. In the quarterfinals, England dismantled Ukraine 4-0 to advance with high confidence. During the semifinal round, England narrowly edged past dark horse Denmark 2-1, as Harry Kane’s extra-time winner secured a comeback win for his team.

However, in heartbreaking fashion, England ultimately fell short of clinching the trophy, losing the final 3-2 on penalties to Italy after the match had finished 1-1 at the end of extra time. Three successive penalty misses cost England their dream of winning their first-ever European Championship crown.

Gareth Southgate’s England will look to use the Euro 2020 final heartbreak as motivation to claim the Euro 2024 trophy and end their nation’s trophy drought.

England’s record in Euro finals:

Total Matches – 1

Won – 0

Lost – 1
