The Red Devils have had two defeats in the last three games.

Manchester United’s season hasn’t even started properly and Erik ten Hag’s future is once again being discussed in media. Discussions regarding Ten Hag heated up following their 3-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday in the Premier League.

But there is no sort of problem at the helm as the former Ajax manager has the backing of the United board. He has been given all the resources he needs going into the season.

However, the loss to Liverpool has continued to put doubts over the Dutch manager’s ability to turn the club into a dominant force, just the way it was back under the leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson.

It was an underwhelming loss for the Dutch manager who was overseeing his third stint as United manager. Things have continued to look bleak. He has yet to instil his vision despite signing many players in the summer.

For now, at least Ten Hag has the support of the new football structure put in place by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Dan Ashworth said it was not unusual for a sporting director to link up with a manager already in place.

Ashworth: “Very rarely do you go into a job as a sporting director and there is no manager in place. All I can do is reiterate that I’ve really enjoyed working with Erik for the last eight weeks.

“My job is to support him in every way I possible can, whether that’s operationally, with recruitment, medical, psychology, [and] the training ground flow to allow him to fully focus on the training pitch and match tactical plan, to deliver success for Manchester United.”

This was United’s third game of the Premier League 2024-25 season. They are just one win into the campaign with two defeats. After the international break, they will face Southampton. If they lose to the Saints then it could create more distrust for the fans.

Ten Hag will now have two weeks to help regroup his ideas for the squad to perform after the international break. He will hope to turn their poor form as things will only get worse if he doesn’t find a solution.
