The Netherlands international has scored only one goal since arriving at the club.

Manchester United former manager Erik ten Hag was left furious with the club’s board for bringing Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutch coach was against his signing and wasn’t any more pleased as the striker arrived overweight.

United made plenty of signings during the recent transfer window. Still, Ten Hag started the new season on a poor note. Their sluggish performance persisted and United’s board finally decided to part ways with the former Ajax head coach.

Ten Hag was not really happy when United board decided to sign Zirkzee from Serie A side Bologna in a £36.5 million ($47m) deal.

Despite scoring a goal on his debut, the Netherlands international since remained toothless in front of the goal, going 14 matches without finding the back of the net. Now reports say United are planning to loan him in the January transfer window.

The forward has been under some criticism for his poor showing during the matches. Against Chelsea, the former Bologna star had a chance to score the winning goal but was late to react.

Ten Hag was frustrated as to why the club chose to sign him as the player said to have linked up with United a “stone overweight” and has struggled to shift that bulk.

It was not the Dutch head coach’s decision but rather the INEOS management team, who wanted to acquire the player. Given Ten Hag has been dismissed from the club it will be interesting to see how the forward will settle under new manager Rubem Amorim who will take charge of the club on November 11.

Until then interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will oversee the club’s matches. Manchester United will once again have to start over under a new head coach soon.

The club are currently in 13th position in the Premier League table. The Portuguese manager will be tasked to turn things upside down if they are to finish in a respectable position before the end of the season.

The club board will also hope that Amorim will aid the 23-year-old striker to recover his goalscoring form.
