The Norwegian striker missed City’s midweek game against Huddersfield.
Erling Haaland is fit to play for Manchester City against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola has revealed.
With 13 goals in only eight games, notably six Premier League goals in five games for Man City, the Norwegian has had an incredible start to the new season for both club and country.
Last weekend, at the Emirates Stadium, Erling Haaland scored again after tucking away a fantastic opening goal in the Citizens’ 1-1 draw with Premier League rivals Arsenal, in which Guardiola’s team let up an equaliser in the 93rd minute.
Pep Guardiola disclosed after the game that the 25-year-old was substituted out in the 75th minute with Man City ahead at the Emirates Stadium due to a minor back injury.
There were questions regarding Haaland’s fitness ahead of this weekend’s league matchup with Burnley because he missed training before being left out of City’s matchday squad for Wednesday’s 2-0 EFL Cup third-round victory over Huddersfield Town.
Nonetheless, Guardiola stated during his pregame press conference on Friday that Haaland is “ready” to play against the Clarets after the striker was sighted in squad practice on Thursday.
Other injury updates
Guardiola has said that Mateo Kovacic, a midfielder, “may” be able to return to duty on Saturday, which is an additional boost for Man City.
After undergoing Achilles surgery in June, Kovacic was unable to play in Man City’s FIFA Club World Cup campaign during the summer.
Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Omar Marmoush, and Abdukodir Khusanov are the four players who are still injured since they are all still recovering from injuries.
Guardiola said Cherki would be out for two months at the end of August, but according to new French sources, the playmaker’s thigh injury has “healed” and he might be ready to play as early as next week.
Talking about Foden, Pep said: “He wants to play every game because he’s happy and that’s the sign…. All of us know what Phil can do. No pressure, we want him to enjoy football. His physical condition is outstanding. Recovery time and his mind is ready. He can play every three days with high intensity. Against Huddersfield, he was really good.”
