Euro 2024: Belgium's potential route to the final
Belgium face France in last 16.
After a lackluster performance in the group stage, Belgium will hope to turn things around in the knockout rounds. The Red Devils have delivered below-par performances so far in the tournament but have managed to secure a place in the last 16. Belgium have appeared out of sync for most of the tournament.
It has not been an easy ride for Kevin De Bruyne and his team. They were shocked by Slovakia in their opener and were put on the back foot. Belgium responded with a hard-fought win over Romania in matchday 2 before being held to a 0-0 draw by a lowly-ranked Ukraine in their final group-stage match.
Their draw against Ukraine meant they finished second in their group behind Romania, dashing Ukraine’s hopes of making it to the knockouts. Red Devils have been placed in a highly competitive bracket and will face tough challenges moving forward. Let’s take a look at what could be their road to the final.
Last 16: July 1, Düsseldorf
Belgium will face France in the Round of 16.
Belgium have booked a meeting with title favorites France in the RO16 clash on July 1. The Red Devils who are placed 3rd will go up against France who are ranked 2nd in the FIFA rankings. It will take something really special for Belgium to see their way past France who possess the strongest squad in the tournament and are known for their performances in must win games. But, Belgium will take motivation from the fact that France have not had a great tournament either and are yet to score a goal from open play.
Quarter-final: July 5, Hamburg
If Belgium manage to get the better of France and reach the last eight, the stakes and intensity will increase further. Belgium will play against the winner of the game between Portugal and Slovenia. While Slovenia have had a really good tournament, they are very unlikely to stand a chance against Portugal resulting in a quarter-final meeting between Red devils and Portugal. The Red Devils will want to recreate their heroics from Euro 2020 where they knocked Portugal out of the tournament and go through to the next round.
Semi-final: July 9, Munich
Should Red Devils repeat history and knock Portugal out of the tournament, either Spain, Germany, Georgia or Denmark will be waiting for him. Georgia and Denmark can definitely pull off an upset, but both Spain and Germany are far too strong for them. One of Spain or Germany will be up against Belgium for a right to play in the final on July 14.
Final: July 14, Berlin
And if Belgium were to undertake the unimaginable and book a ticket to the Capital city of Berlin, they will really outdo themselves and will most likely face one of England, Italy or the Netherlands in the ultimate game.
