Euro 2024: England injury news & suspension list for final against Spain
England are looking for their first Euro title.
Gareth Southgate’s England have booked their place in the Euro 2024 final after a thrilling 2-1 comeback win against the Netherlands in the semifinal round, extending their unbeaten run in the competition.
The Dutch got off to a dream start, taking an early 1-0 lead courtesy of their talented midfielder Xavi Simons’ opener in the 7th minute. However, England soon drew level after they were awarded a controversial penalty, which was eventually converted by captain Harry Kane to make it 1-1. With the closely contested affair set to go into extra time, super sub Ollie Watkins popped up with a last-minute winner to secure a 2-1 victory for the Three Lions in dramatic fashion, reaching their second successive Euros final.
Gareth Southgate’s side finished the group stage as Group C table-toppers, beating Serbia and drawing against Denmark and Slovenia, with a record of one win, two draws, two clean sheets, five points, two goals scored, and just a single goal conceded.
During the knockout stages, England narrowly edged past underdog Slovakia in the round of 16 by registering a 2-1 comeback win through crucial late goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane. This was followed by a nerve-wracking 1-1 (5-3) penalty shootout win against dark horse Switzerland in an exciting quarterfinal contest.
On July 15, the 2020 Euro finalists are set to lock horns with Spain at the Olympiastadion in Berlin for the grand finale of Euro 2024. Harry Kane is the joint top scorer of the tournament so far, alongside Spain’s Dani Olmo, with three goals. Players such as Jordan Pickford, Marc Guehi, Jude Bellingham, and Bukayo Saka have all been instrumental in England’s route to the final.
According to the guidelines, only if a player receives a red card in the semifinal will he miss the Euro final.
In their somewhat hot and cold journey to the final of Euro 2024, England has had their fair share of player injuries and suspensions.
The Three Lions are finally expected to enjoy the full services of left-back Luke Shaw in the final. Despite a serious hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for months, Shaw was picked by Southgate as the only natural left-back in England’s final Euros squad, with hopes of his potential participation during the knockout rounds.

However, with just two substitute appearances under his belt so far, the 28-year-old full-back is in contention to start his first game of Euro 2024 in the final. England’s makeshift left-back for the tournament, Kieran Trippier, endured injury concerns during the semifinal match against the Netherlands, where he had to be substituted at halftime.
At his press conference, Gareth Southgate stated, “We’ll see how Tripps is, but he has been a soldier. We didn’t want to take any chances. We had it in our minds to bring Luke into the game at some point.”
Despite playing through the entire tournament with the grueling pain of a shoulder injury sustained back in November, along with possible fatigue after a long and strenuous club and country campaign, Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham is expected to shrug off these concerns and play in the final.
Regarding player suspensions, only one regular starter, defender Marc Guehi, has missed a game so far, which was England’s quarterfinal clash against Switzerland due to the accumulation of two yellow cards.
