The Three Lions will face either Turkey or Netherlands in the last four.

In a penalty shootout, England defeated Switzerland on Sunday to move on to the Euro 2024 semifinals at the Dusseldorf Arena.

After Switzerland had gained the goal courtesy of Breel Embolo in the 75th minute, Bukaya Saka levelled for the Three Lions with an incredible strike in the 80th.

There was nothing between the two sides at the conclusion of the 90 minutes plus extra time, therefore penalty shootout happened. In the end, England prevailed 5-3 on penalties to secure a semifinal spot.

Both teams barely produced any opportunities during the whole encounter, which ended in a deadlock. Xherdan Shaqiri nearly scored straight from a corner in the extra time session, striking the angle of the post and bar.

The Swiss came many times close to scoring a winner but fluffed their chances and it appeared the game would only be decided through spot-kicks.

Gareth Southgate made a tactical tweak this time to find the balance in the squad which could allow the players to operate freely and not limit their attributes in the game. The Three Lions played with three at the back with Ezri Konsa joining the squad after the suspension of Marc Guéhi.

England managed to play decent football but were unlucky to concede first. They did bounce back quickly as in the 80th minute Bukayo Saka scored the equaliser. It seems Southgate would continue with the same lineup against the next opponent in the Euro 2024 semi-final.

On Wednesday night in Dortmund, England will play the victor of the Netherlands and Turkey in the semifinals.
