Euro 2024: Germany's potential route to the final
Toni Kroos’s return has strengthened the team as they aim for the title
Germany topped their group after putting on some impressive performances in the group stage. They have now advanced to the knockout stages and will be aiming to win the tournament in their home place.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side dominantly began their tenure after dismantling Scotland in the opening fixture. Then they secured a victory over Hungary in the next match and capped off their group stage with a draw against Switzerland.
The teenage sensation duo of Wirtz and Musiala have particularly caught the eye of everyone as they announced their name on the big stage. However, their finishing in the final game will be a concern for them as they failed to take their chances in the draw.
Germany have shown title credentials in the tournament so far. However, they will have to be more clinical in the final third as they can miss those chances against the big teams. With the support of their home support, it remains to be seen how they fare against the bigger teams.
Now, let’s take a look at Germany’s route to the final of the Euro 2024:
Last 16: Signal Iduna Park, Sunday 30 June
Germany will take on Denmark in the last 16
Die Mannschaft looked set to battle out against Slovenia in the round of 16 until UEFA announced Denmark would be finishing above them after making the decision based on yellow cards received by Slovenia’s assistant coach after they were on the same points, total goals and yellow cards to players.
Denmark finished second in Group C after gathering three consecutive draws. The Danes looked at their best in the tournament but somehow managed to finish second due to the other team’s position. It remains to be seen how they will fare against the host in Dortmund.
Quarter-final: MHP Arena, Friday 5 July
Germany will probably face Spain here as they are in great shape. La Roja won all of their group games without conceding a single goal and will be tough competitors for them. However, you cannot rule out Georgia who pulled one of the biggest shocks in the tournament after defeating Portugal to qualify for the last 16.
Semi-final: Allianz Arena, Wednesday 10 July
Germany will be getting a tough draw in the semi-final as they could face either France, Belgium, or Portugal. These teams are among the best in the favourites for the tournament and will be battling them for a place in the final. Only time will tell them how they fare against them.
Final: Berlin, Sunday 14 July
If Germany manages to register a win in the semi-final, they will be facing either reigning champions Italy and runners-up England and Netherlands in the final. However, you cannot rule out Austria from it after they impressed everyone with their performance by topping the group consisting of France, Netherlands, and Poland. They could give a perfect farewell to the fans by winning the Euros after their constant support in the competition. For more updates, follow Khel Now on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram; download the Khel Now Android App or IOS App and join our community on Telegram.
