Euro 2024: Trent Alexander-Arnold produced 78 mph strike in penalty kick against Switzerland

The Three Lions overcame the Swiss 5-3 on penalties to reach the semi-final.
The spot-kick that Trent Alexander-Arnold scored in England’s shootout victory over Switzerland is seen to be one of the most powerful goals of Euro 2024.
The Three Lions’ match against Switzerland on Saturday proved to be their most difficult test of the competition thus far, following their thrilling triumph against Slovakia to advance to the quarterfinals.
Late into the second half, Breel Embolo broke the scoreless tie to give the Swiss the lead, but minutes later, Bukayo Saka levelled the score with a looping shot.
Gareth Southgate’s team was forced into extra time once more, and with penalties imminent, the England manager brought in Ivan Toney and Alexander-Arnold.
England were flawless from 12 yards out, with Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Saka, and Toney all scoring their penalty shots and Jordan Pickford stopping Manuel Akanji, despite their inconsistent record in shootouts.
The Liverpool star had the opportunity to lead England into their third major semifinal under Southgate’s leadership as he was the fifth man to come up.
Alexander-Arnold scored a shot low to the goalkeeper’s right, earning the win for England and setting an event record, seemingly unfazed by the weight of a nation’s expectations on his shoulders.
The most difficult penalty kick of the competition thus far, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s strike attained a maximum speed of 125.6 mph (78 mph) before finding its way into the net, according to Adidas intelligence in the Fussballliebe match ball.
In the Group C opening 1-1 tie with Denmark, Slovenia captain Erik Janza’s thunderbolt, which hit 128.76 kmph (80 mph), was the only open play shot to rank higher than the game-winning penalty against Switzerland.
