The Barcelona star’s season could already be over.

Shortly after sustaining another injury, a distraught Pedri hobbled off the pitch in tears during Spain’s quarterfinal matchup against Germany in the Euro 2024 tournament.

In just the second minute of play, the gifted young player was the victim of a strong challenge from Toni Kroos that sent the Barcelona player sprawling to the ground.

Following therapy, Pedri realised he couldn’t go on and was overtaken with emotion, allowing Dani Olmo to take his position.

The 21-year-old midfield wizard, who made his breakthrough at Barcelona as a youth, has struggled with injuries in recent years.

In the altercation with Kross, who launched himself into a strong challenge and was fortunately spared a booking by referee Anthony Taylor, it looked as though he had injured his knee.

Both Pedri and Barcelona, as well as Spain who ultimately won against Germany to make it to the Euro 2024 semi-finals, will hope that this problem is not a major one. An ‘internal lateral sprain to his left knee’ was subsequently certified by the Spanish Football Federation to have happened to Pedri.

While Julian Nagelsmann’s team tried to establish their dominance in the game in Stuttgart, Pedri was not the only Spanish player who was subjected to aggressive challenges.

In a fierce encounter, teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal was also knocked about in the first few minutes. Even though Olmo and Kai Havertz each came close for their respective teams, Spain finally scored with Dani Olmo finding the back of the net but replacement Florian Wirtz levelled the score before full-time.

As the competition moves into its later stages, Luis de la Fuente’s team, who have undoubtedly been the most impressive team throughout this summer’s championship, will hope to make the most of their chances as they now are in the semifinals after beating Germany 2-1.
