Euro 2024: Will Spain captain Alvaro Morata miss semi-final against France?

La Roja defeated Germany 2-1 to claim a place in the semi-final of Euro 2024.
Spain were one of the sides who came as an outsider but after their performance throughout the Euro 2024 competition, La Roja started to be seen as a contender.
One of the biggest upsets they caused was eliminating host nation Germany from the tournament at the quarter-final stage. The match appeared to heading towards penalty shootouts before Mikel Merino’s header in the 120th minute sent Spain to the semi-final of the Championship.
However, it was one of the most chaotic quarterfinals and both sides saw an array of yellow cards. A few of Spain’s players could miss the semifinal clash against France. One of them is their captain and striker Alvaro Morata. This surely will be a massive disadvantage for Luis de la Fuente’s team.
Morata has been impressive throughout the Euro 2024 competition scoring once and remaining a big threat to the opposition. And now the Spanish team could have a big headache for the game against Les Bleus, though they aren’t short of options for the striker line.
Daniel Carvajal and Robin Le Normand were the other two players cautioned. For a second yellow card in the last seconds of extra time, Carvajal even saw a red card. Due to his second caution of the competition, Le Normand won’t be available for the pivotal semifinal matchup against France.
In addition, Alvaro Morata might not be able to attend the semi-final match because UEFA has not confirmed if referee Anthony Taylor gave him a yellow card amid the raucous celebrations that followed Merino’s victory-clinching goal that evening. The Spain captain was reportedly given a yellow card, but UEFA’s post-match report did not list the punishment.
Additionally, Pedri will not be available for De la Fuente due to an early injury he sustained from a careless foul committed by Toni Kroos in the sixth minute of play. On Tuesday, July 9, Spain takes on France, be it with or without Alvaro Morata.
