The final of this season will take place on 21st May.
Before the season, the Europa League underwent a significant makeover, going away from the conventional group stages. Rather, a league stage was added, and 36 teams now competed to advance to the knockout stages.
Teams that finished between ninth and twenty-fourth in the standings advanced to the next round through a play-off round, while teams that finished between first and eighth in the table automatically advanced to the round of sixteen.
The Europa League’s conventional group stage matches were last introduced in the 2023–2024 season. Clubs were awarded a little extra for each victory and draw during that season, and the two clubs that advanced received at least £460,000 for their efforts.
Although the new Europa League seems to have less money on paper, the money is merely spread across more games that need to be played. There are other discernible variations with respect to the knock-out phases.
There is a roughly £500,000 increase this year over last for the round of 16 qualification. Teams this season receive £600,000 more for reaching the quarterfinals, around £1.2 million more for reaching the semi-finals, and slightly more than £2 million more for reaching the Europa League final, which is a trend observed in subsequent knockout stages.
However, how much cash will the two Premier League teams, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United will get for winning the Europa League in 2024–2025? Let’s look at it below.
What is the Europa League 2024-25 prize money?
The winner of Wednesday’s Europa League final between Tottenham and Manchester United could receive up to £54.4m. That figure is a combination of prize money for winning the competition and for reaching the league phase for the Champions League next term.
Naturally, clubs that get to the finals and win this season’s Europa League—the tournament that all teams aspire to play in—see a slight improvement in their financial situation.
Teams will receive £3.5 million if they make it to the semi-finals. Just about £6 million will be awarded to the two winning teams who go to the final, and that’s just for playing the game.
The ultimate champion of the Europa League will get an extra £5 million for winning the trophy at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao at the end of the season.
