FACT CHECK: Did Paul Pogba say his wife abandoned him when he was suspended from football?

Pogba will return to football at the start of the upcoming season.
Paul Pogba recently signed a contract with AS Monaco after his football ban was reduced to 18 months, where the midfielder suffered hardships while away from action.
During an old interview with Mail Sport, he discussed his life without football and how he overcame those difficult times, but a certain section of the video was misquoted on social media recently.
Paul Pogba discussed the emotional toll of his football sentence and the crucial role his family—especially his wife Zulay Pogba—played in helping him deal with his first in-depth interview since being banned for doping.
Her steadfast assistance kept him afloat at what he called the most trying time of his life.
The former Manchester United midfielder took responsibility for not double-checking a supplement he took in a different interview with Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol. However, it claimed that the penalty—which was initially a four-year ban—was “too much.”
Did Paul Pogba’s wife abandon him when he was banned from playing football?

No, Paul Pogba did not say anything about his wife abandoning him when he was banned from playing football. But rather, he attributed his ability to be mentally tough and focused on getting back on the field to his wife.
The statement was misquoted on social media and via certain publications, leading to confusion among fans.
“My wife was like, sitting me down, and [saying] you’re gonna go, you’re gonna get through this, and you’re gonna go and play again,” Pogba said.
“Because I was like, Yeah, if it happens, what are we gonna do? I might stop, maybe. She sat me down and said, You’re going to play. You’re going to play again. You’re gonna get through this, okay? And that also helped me and pushed me — truly talking.”
Pogba claimed that his wife and kids kept him grounded even though friends and former teammates sent encouraging messages.
He claimed that spending time with them assisted him in “standing up,” particularly on the days when he felt totally lost.
“Mentally, definitely, I had messages, friends, obviously the family, obviously my wife, because I spent a lot of time with my wife that I wasn’t used to,” he told.
“And my kids. So I’d say that was a good part of being a real dad at home and being close to my kids, seeing them grow every day. I really enjoyed it. And it helped me also to get through it day by day.”
