West Ham United are also keen on signing the Frenchman
Ever since the departure of Sergio Busquets Barcelona have failed to find an ideal defensive midfielder to replace the Spanish star, and this has been the main reason the club have failed to find a balance in their midfield. The club did sign Oriol Romeu, but he was not able to make a significant impression.
However, the club will once again look to sign an ideal defensive midfield that will bring that extra steel in the middle of the pitch and one of the options is N’Golo Kante who is seen by the club as a ‘low-cost’ option.
Kante is currently playing in the Saudi Pro League for Al-Ittihad and could be open to returning to Europe, given he is still the one of thr most underrated midfielder following his performance in recently culminated Euro 2024.
He was named ‘Man of the Match’ twice and was France’s best midfield player throughout the tournament in Germany. Due to his consistency as a midfielder and his ability to produce in games, his national and club teams will continue to rely on him to have a noticeable effect on the game.
The 33-year-old played in the Premier League for a decade after winning league titles with Leicester City and Chelsea before leaving for the Saudi side. However, Barcelona aren’t the only side interested in signing the player with West Ham United also plotting a move away for the midfielder.
If Kante wants to leave then the Saudi side will demand €30m which seems affordable for both clubs. Barcelona needs a defensive midfielder who can bring that fluidity to the game which the club has lacked since the exit of Busquets.
Kante could prove to be an ideal signing for Barcelona as he will bring plenty of experience and he is aware of his duties in the middle of the pitch. He is an excellent player who can connect the dots and also add that extra layer to attack and defence.
However, they can negotiate and try to bring down the fee which will make more easier for them to sign the player.
But Barcelona are already stacked with midfielders and if they want to sign Kante, they will have to make some room for his signing and offload some players.
