All 48 teams for the FIFA World Cup 2026 have been confirmed after the UEFA and other intercontinental playoffs were finished. The competition will be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
FIFA has established a rigorous schedule for participating countries by formally confirming the important deadlines for submitting squad lists before the 2026 World Cup. As they start the last stages of tournament preparation, coaches will have to make early choices about their larger squads.
This rule guarantees that teams have enough time to be ready for the competition. The dates set by them will lead national teams through the last phases of preparation as the 2026 World Cup draws near.
When is the FIFA World Cup 2026 final squad submission?
FIFA regulations state that there are three parts to the process:
- May 11, 2026: Preliminary lists (35–55 players, including five goalkeepers).
- May 25, 2026: Clubs must release selected players.
- June 1, 2026: Deadline for submitting the final official squad (23 to 26 players).
Are teams allowed to change players at the last moment?
FIFA permits modifications under certain circumstances, even though final lists are intended to be final.
Up to 24 hours before a team’s first game, replacements may be made in the event of a significant illness or injury.
