Former Argentine goalkeeper believes Cristiano Ronaldo 'has always been better' than Lionel Messi

Ronaldo and Messi have achieved unprecedented success in their career.

Cristiano Ronaldo has “always been better” than Lionel Messi, but he won’t ever be regarded as the greatest of all time, according to Argentine legend Hugo Gatti.

Legendary goalie Gatti tells Bolavip that he thinks CR7 has overreached himself in that judgment.

“Cristiano was better than Messi and he is better now too. That is the reality. CR7 is playing a football that is not as good, but it is at a different speed and Messi is playing in a country club. I wish there were a lot of Cristiano Ronaldos because that would improve and encourage more players who think that, feel it and don’t say it.

That makes him different from Messi because I’ve never seen him say that, take a risk like that. Then you have to prove it and Cristiano, at 40 years old, continues to prove it. But he went too far because there is no-one else like Pele.”

Although Ronaldo has won five Ballons d’Or, compared to Messi’s eight, he has won significant honours with Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus and is still the star of Al-Nassr, a Saudi Pro League team, at the age of forty. Messi, who previously experienced stints at Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, is currently at Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.

Both star players continue to impress at their respective clubs and will continue to be compared among the fans and pundits alike. They will also remain in the GOAT debate and everyone will have a different opinion on who is the best among the greatest players.

Cristiano Ronaldo has risen to the top of the game thanks in part to his self-belief. In addition to aiming for 1,000 career goals, he is anticipated to play in the 2026 World Cup finals, and he thinks he can play for a few more years.
