Former Premier League star urges Arsenal not to give Liverpool a guard of honour this Sunday

Liverpool won the Premier League two weeks ago.
In an X-rated tirade, Troy Deeney has encouraged Arsenal to reject the “humiliation” of providing Liverpool with a guard of honour. This weekend, the Gunners visit Anfield to play the newly crowned Premier League champions.
The match takes place two weeks after Arne Slot’s team was formally declared the winners. At Stamford Bridge on Sunday, which the Blues won 3-1, Chelsea became the first team to present them with a guard of honour.
Deeney has advised that Arsenal should not do the same after the Blues gave the Reds a guard of honour at Stamford Bridge. The former Premier League attacker told The Sun:
“Chelsea gave Liverpool a ‘guard of honour’ before at Stamford Bridge. And next weekend, presumably, Arsenal will do the same.”
“But like so many other things in modern football, it’s something I will never understand. Frankly, I think it’s a load of old b*****ks. It’s not so much a mark of respect as a humiliation for the team lining up to give the champions a little clap.”
“It’s as if Chelsea and Arsenal and everyone who plays the champs for the rest of the season, is saying, ‘Well done, we’re perfectly happy you beat us.”
It will be interesting to see if the Gunners will be keen on giving the league champions a guard of honour before the kick-off. Arsenal, who lost to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final of the Champions League, will go another season trophyless.
After losing to Liverpool in the race for the league title, they had a chance to reach the final of the UCL. But Mikel Arteta’s side once again came short and lost 3-1 on aggregate against the French club.
They will finish the season dejected for the third time. In the previous two campaigns, they were on the cusp of winning the Premier League championship but fell twice to Manchester City.
