Both teams are yet to win a game in Euro 2024.

Georgia put Turkey to the test in their inaugural European Championship campaign, which began in Dortmund. The match lasted 90 intense minutes, with a thrilling stoppage time finish.

After Mert Muldur’s incredible goal put the Crescent-Stars up, Georges Mikautadze equalised the score, bringing the Georgian supporters to their feet. It was his nation’s historic first goal at a major international competition.

Willy Sagnol’s team finished with 14 shots on goal, which is the most for a debutant since Austria in 2008. However, they were caught off guard twice more, with Turkey scoring a late third as a result of custodian Giorgi Mamardashvili wandering upfield in an attempt to equalise.

Only two countries—Northern Ireland and Slovakia in 2016—have lost their opening Euro match and nevertheless advanced to the knockout stage. Georgia will now attempt to turn things around with a victory that would keep them in the running.

They will again look to Mikautadze and star player Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for motivation against the Czechs, who were also defeated in Tuesday’s opening match playing Portugal.

Lukas Provod’s goal in the 62nd minute gave his team the lead, but Ivan Hasek’s team allowed Portugal back into their Group F encounter. Now that 2-1 loss puts them at serious risk of going out early.

In Leipzig, a regrettable own goal by Robin Hranac tied the score and with seconds remaining, substitute Francisco Conceicao crushed the hearts of the Czechia fans by winning three points for the Selecao.

The Czechia made fewer passes than any other side in the opening round of the Euro 2024 competition and they only managed eight touches in the opposition box, despite coming dangerously close to winning a crucial point.

The 1996 runners-up, who have already lost seven times in 12 group games since the 2008 championships and made it to the quarterfinals in two of their previous three Euros, might be eliminated on Saturday with one more loss.
