The striker will miss Italian UEFA Super game against Real Madrid.
The Gianluca Scamacca season might already be over before it has even started after the striker suffered an ACL injury, which will keep him out for 6–7 months.
Atalanta’s BC pre-season game against Parma yesterday saw the striker land awkwardly as the forward placed his left knee badly. At first, it was thought to be a sprain, but the Italian was holding his knee and couldn’t get up due to pain, which indicated he might have picked up a serious injury.
However, Scamacca was then carried off on a stretcher just days before the UEFA Super Cup final against Real Madrid. The former Genoa striker challenged the Param custodian, who stepped outside of his line, in an attempt to win the ball, and Scamacca tumbled uncomfortably to the ground.
The initial negative sensations were confirmed this morning. The medical reports came out, and the player ruptured the ACL, meniscus, and collateral ligaments.
Scamacca is now set to undergo rehabilitation and will be operated on at Villa Stuart by Professor Mariani. However, the exact extent of his injury is still doubtful, but his season might be over.
The centre-forward joined Atalanta last summer after a season at West Ham United, where he wasn’t a preferred player under David Moyes. The 25-year-old was then signed by Atlanta, but it appears Scamacca will have to spend the remainder of the new season on the sidelines.
One of the worst injuries in football is always an ACL tear. Depending on the severity of the injury, it may take him several months to heal, and upon his return, it might take him another month to regain his previous level of fitness.
Last season the striker was in terrific form, scoring 19 goals in 44 games for the Serie A side across all competitions.
It takes a year to recuperate, and Atalanta will hope for a return as soon as possible. They will prepare for the final of the UEFA Super Cup against Madrid after beating Bayer Leverkusen in the final of the Europa League.
