Gianni Infantino has revealed this was the only valid bid to host the 2035 Womenâs World Cup.
Gianni Infantino has confirmed that UK will host the 2035 edition of the FIFA Womenâs World Cup. While United States will host the 2031 edition.
Last month, the English Football Association teamed up with Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to potentially host the major competition.
Initial submissions were due on Monday afternoon earlier this week. Additionally, rival countries failed to submit their bids on time, although the UK did.
As a result, the 2035 tournament lacked genuine competitiveness. Gianni Infantino, the head of FIFA, named UKâs candidacy the âone valid bidâ for the tournament.
Prior to their withdrawal from the race, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco had all stated their intention to host jointly. Additionally, Infantino disclosed that FIFA plans to expand the Womenâs World Cup from 32 to 48 teams by 2031.
For the 2023 competition in Australia and New Zealand, the number of teams was expanded from 24 to 32, and England made it to the final for the first time. The Lionesses lost to Spain 1-0 in Sydney, missing out on the trophy.
During a Thursday morning UEFA congress meeting, Infantino stated: âI can also confirm that, as part of the bidding process, we received one bid for 2031 and one valid bid for 2035.
âThe 2031 bid is from the United States of America and potentially some other Concacaf members together.
âAnd the 2035 bid is from Europe, from the home nations. âSo the path is there for the Womenâs World Cup to be taking place in 2031 and 2035 in some great countries, some great nations, to boost the womenâs football movement even more.â
The Football Associationâs CEO, Mark Bullingham, said: âWe are honoured to be the sole bidder for the Fifa Womenâs World Cup 2035. Hosting the first Fifa World Cup since 1966 with our home nations partners will be very special. The hard work starts now, to put together the best possible bid by the end of the year.â
