Goalkeepers have a thankless job. Despite standing firm under pressure, the simplest error or a lapse in concentration by a goalkeeper has major consequences in a football match. Therefore, keeping a good number of clean sheets is a mighty feat for any custodian as it involves constant vigilance.

The footballing world saw plenty of impressive goalkeeping performances in 2024. As the world moves into 2025, it is worth noting that some custodians stood taller than the rest and contributed immensely to their respective team’s success.

If we take a glance at the year gone by, a handful of goalkeepers played well consistently and racked up impressive numbers. Here are the top 10 players with the most clean sheets in 2024:

10. Mike Maignan (AC Milan) – 13

Mike Maignan has been with AC Milan since 2021 and played a major role in the club winning the 2021-22 Italian Serie A. In 2024, he kept 13 clean sheets for the Rossoneri. He already has eight clean sheets in the ongoing 2024-25 season in the league for the club.

9. Brice Samba (Lens) – 13

Brice Samba is an important player for RC Lens and leads the squad as the captain. In the ongoing Ligue 1 campaign, he has already recorded seven clean sheets, at the time of writing. His performance in 2024 was decent, as he managed to keep the opposition from scoring 13 times.

8. Michele Di Gregorio (Monza and Juventus) – 13

Michele Di Gregorio impressed for Monza in the 2023-24 season, where he kept 14 overall clean sheets and has carried his form after signing for Juventus FC in the 2024-25 term. The custodian has kept seven clean sheets in the Serie A at the time of writing. 

7. Peter Gulacsi (RB Leipzig) – 13

Peter Gulacsi is a long-time servant for RB Leipzig and continues to play a significant role in the German Bundesliga outfit. The 35-year-old is entering his tenth year with the club but is showing no signs of slowing down. In the calendar year 2024, he kept 13 clean sheets.

6. Jordan Pickford (Everton) – 14

Despite Everton’s recent struggles, their charismatic goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has been impressive. The club managed to avoid relegation at the end of the 2023-24 season but the threat of going down looms large in the ongoing 2024-25 term too. However, Pickford’s 14 clean sheets in 2024 helped the side stay afloat, making him indispensable to their survival in the Premier League.

5. Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid) – 15

Jan Oblak kept 15 clean sheets in 2024, recording another impressive year playing for Atletico Madrid in LaLiga. The custodian has spent 11 years with the club and looks to be only improving with age. He already has eight clean sheets in the ongoing league campaign from 17 appearances.

4. Vanja Milinkovic-Savic (Torino) – 15

Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, a former Manchester United player, was in sublime form for FC Torino in the calendar year 2024. He kept 15 clean sheets for the Italian club last year and kept five in the ongoing Serie A season, after having finished second on the list of goalkeepers with the most clean sheets last term.

3. Yann Sommer (Inter) – 16

Yann Sommer has truly dominated the Serie A since moving to Inter Milan in 2023. He won the Golden Glove at the end of the 2023-24 term with 19 clean sheets, helping the club win the league title. He kept 16 clean sheets in the Serie A overall in 2024.

2. Alex Remiro (Real Sociedad) – 18

Alex Remiro kept the second most number of clean sheets in 2024 from Europe’s top five leagues. The custodian was one of Real Sociedad’s most consistent performers in the past year. He kept 16 clean sheets at the end of the 2023-24 term and recorded 10 from the first 18 matches in the ongoing 2024-25 season.

1. David Raya (Arsenal) – 18

David Raya of Arsenal emerges as the best goalkeeper in this category in the year 2024 in Europe’s top five leagues. He kept 18 clean sheets too but in fewer minutes played than Alex Remiro. Interestingly, the Gunners have recorded the most points in 2024 in the Premier League with 85 points but the league title still eludes them.
