Mbappe failed to turn up against Liverpool in the Champions League.

Regarding Kylian Mbappe’s continuous slump, former Real Madrid midfielder Guti has voiced his opinion that the Frenchman lacks confidence.

Following his most recent appearance for Los Blancos, which took place in the Champions League at Anfield against Liverpool this week, the legendary Real Madrid player Guti believes Kylian Mbappe appears to be a pale imitation of his previous self. Mbappe once again failed to establish his dominance in the match as Madrid lost 2-0.

With just nine goals in 18 games across all competitions, including four from the penalty spot, Mbappe has had a lacklustre start to his Real Madrid career.

“I think Mbappe has not been up to par, obviously. That’s the reality,” Guti said on El Chiringuito (h/t Mundo Deportivo). “We would all like to know what is happening to Mbappe. He looks lacking in confidence, shy. Moments before taking the penalty he looked scared. In that sense he is certainly not happy with his performance and wants something more.”

During the visit to Anfield, where the game was 1-0 in the Reds’ favour before Mbappe missed a penalty kick in the second half, his poor play persisted.

With his favoured left-wing position all to himself, while Vinicius Jr. was sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Mbappe appeared to have the ideal opportunity to turn the tide. Guti claims that although Mbappe felt the pressure, he still has faith in the World Cup winners ability to get better.

“To that you add the fact that Real Madrid fans were eagerly awaiting him and that he has left his PSG bubble a little bit, where he had everything under control.

“Taking him off would be the worst remedy, but he does have to be protected. And that’s why he’s at the best club. Florentino Perez, the club and [Carlo] Ancelotti are going to protect him because we all believe in him. I believe in him. The easy thing is to criticise and say that he’s not worth it, but Mbappe is one of the best players in the world.”

Along with Jude Bellingham and Brahim Diaz, Mbappe was one of the three Madrid players who were evaluated in Madrid on Thursday. Journalist Edu Aguirre even attested that none of the three have been hurt. Mbappe ought to be healthy enough to start against Getafe, a local rival, in LaLiga.
