The centre-back was linked with an exit.

According to reports, Harry Maguire has improved his circumstances at Manchester United. The defender is currently in negotiations with the Red Devils for a contract extension.

After his appallingly bad season at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag, Maguire looked unlikely to stay at Manchester United this summer. However, the former Red Devils captain made the decision to remain at the club and improve his circumstances. This is after the club attempted to sell the former Leicester City player to West Ham and other clubs.

Maguire has demonstrated a good deal of competence and skill. He has been one of the Red Devils’ most reliable players despite Manchester United’s dismal start to the season, which resulted in Ten Hag being fired and replaced. Due to his performances, the 31-year-old has been able to have “positive” discussions with United about extending his contract.

In an interview with the press, Maguire stated:

“I haven’t really thought about it. I’ve still got this year to go with an option in their hands. But all the signs are positive at the moment and the chat that I’m having is really positive.”

Following Manchester United’s 2-1 victory against local rivals Manchester City, the Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim did nothing but give Maguire credit for his crucial role under him. Maguire formed a solid partnership with Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez as United rallied back to secure a massive away victory against their arch-rivals.

The centre-back will hope to continue his brilliant form when United return to action next. Meanwhile, Amorim will expect this big win will finally kick-start the club’s winning streak across all competitions. He will now be looking to secure a top-four spot in the league before the end of the season.

Amorim has been alternating his team from game to game, but Maguire has been a consistent starter. He is probably going to start when Manchester United play Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, December 19.
