Ronaldo could reach 1,000 career goals this year.

Roberto Martinez, the head coach of Portugal, has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s pursuit of 1,000 career goals and a new record has not turned into an “obsession.” There are no concerns, at least not in international football, that the legendary CR7 will cease passing to his teammates in an effort to accomplish yet another personal milestone.

Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Al-Nassr have all benefited from the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s almost otherworldly skills over the course of two record-breaking decades, but the legendary forward has always taken pride in being a team player.

He has high expectations for both himself and the people in the same dressing room. Having developed a taste for winning trophies, Ronaldo wants to succeed but understands that most significant honours require collective teamwork.

In terms of competitive goals, the 41-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo is rapidly approaching four figures. Despite having made 143 appearances for his nation, he was left out of Portugal’s most recent squad—the final one before a World Cup selection is made—due to an unforeseen injury.

Cristiano Ronaldo, this summer, will head to his sixth World Cup and is expected to lead the line yet again for his nation.

The Portugal head coach is unconcerned about his captain’s focus. When asked if he would rather Ronaldo not be distracted by 1,000 goals, Martinez responded as follows:

“I don’t agree with that. If Cristiano had played the European Championship focused on scoring a goal to break another record, the assist against Turkey for Bruno Fernandes wouldn’t have happened.”

“It’s not true that our players have records or personal goals in mind. The only thing I saw at the European Championship was a different kind of responsibility in the more experienced players, a maximum responsibility to have a top performance in the tournament.”

How many career goals has Ronaldo scored so far?

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 965 official career goals.

Is Ronaldo included in the Portugal squad for the March games?

No, he is injured.
