In football, winning any trophy in any season is a big accomplishment, but winning a treble is truly historic. Only a handful of clubs from a handful of leagues have accomplished this feat.

Only 11 teams throughout history have won a European treble, which means taking home their league title, a domestic cup and the UEFA Champions League in one season. 

During the 1966-67 season, Celtic were the first club in history to win the treble. While the Dutch side, AFC Ajax, matched the feat during the 1971-72 season. After that, many historic clubs have also completed the treble, such as Manchester United, FC Barcelona, and Bayern Munich.

Manchester City are the most recent club to join the exclusive list in their historic 2022-23 season under the guidance of Pep Guardiola. Meanwhile, FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich are the only two clubs to win the treble twice.

Paris Saint-Germain were on the brink of achieving this mean feat in the 2024-25 season after winning the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France (French Cup) final. They only need a victory over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final to capture the treble glory. So, let’s take a look at whether any French club have previously won the treble in history.

Has any French club ever won the treble?

Yes, a French club has won the treble in history. They also became the second French club after Marseille to have ever won the highest European continental prize. Marseille lifted the 1992-93 European Cup.

PSG, led by Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, were close to joining the list in 2020. However, they ended up losing 1-0 against the Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich on the night.

PSG created history the other night, joining both lists. Meanwhile, their opponent tonight, Inter Milan, had already won the treble once (2009-10 season) under the guidance of Jose Mourinho.

After PSG ended up achieving this feat, their manager, Luis Enrique, became the second coach to achieve this treble-winning feat on two occasions, having previously managed it with Barcelona in 2015. Previously, Pep Guardiola was the only manager to complete the treble twice, with Barcelona in 2009 and Manchester City in 2023.
