How could Man United's €5m clause in Marcus Rashford deal benefit Barcelona?

FC Barcelona are in talks with Manchester United to sign Marcus Rashford on a loan. As per multiple reports, the deal is almost finalised between the two clubs. This means that the England national football team player is ready for a new challenge.

During his recent loan spell at Aston Villa, Marcus Rashford looked motivated, and there was a clear image in his mind to be the best on the field. Even though he was able to find the net just four times in 17 appearances for the Villans, he also bagged six assists during that time.

His playing style also made him the first choice for Unai Emery, even over Ollie Watkins. Rashford was also given a chance to play for the England national football team yet again after his performances for Aston Villa.

The English forward is now ready for a new challenge and another loan move, but this time he will be moving away from the English Premier League. Marcus Rashford will join Barcelona before their pre-season games, as per multiple reports.

Marcus Rashford’s penalty clause

As per the recent reports, the English international is likely to take a cut in pay of around 25% if he wants his move to Barcelona. The Premier League giants Man United have included a €30 million purchase option for Rashford after the loan deal ends.

Another report suggests that a penalty clause is in place should Barcelona choose not to activate their buy option. If Rashford returns to Man United at the end of the campaign, Barca would still be required to pay €5 million.

Why is the penalty clause beneficial for Barca?

The deal to sign Marcus Rashford will be beneficial for Barcelona either way, as they will escape from paying that loan fee. The Blaugrana have yet again failed to register some of their players this summer. Had they agreed to pay €5 million for a temporary move for Marcus Rashford, that figure would have counted against their salary cap.

The LaLiga champions still have to register Joan Garcia and Roony Bardghji before the season starts. Barcelona are also eyeing to come up with new deals for both Wojciech Szczesny and Lamine Yamal. If the reports are true, then they will have to register Marcus Rashford as well.
