A major blow for Los Blancos who are just behind Barcelona in the league table.

Real Madrid are set to be without their summer signing Kylian Mbappe for three weeks. The forward has suffered an injury to the femoral biceps in his left leg. He will miss the Madrid derby on Sunday.

The French star was subbed off in the injury time against Deportivo Alavés in their 3-2 win. After the game, Carlo Ancelotti dismissed any injury concerns. However, after the scans, the reports revealed that Mbappe had picked up an injury.

“Following tests carried out today by Real Madrid’s Medical Services on our player Kylian Mbappé, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. His progress will be monitored,” a statement on the Spanish club’s website read.

Mbappe is now going to miss three weeks of action. He will miss Madrid’s three crucial games, the Madrid derby which is against Atletico Madrid, the UEFA Champions League game against Lille and later another LaLiga match against Villarreal.

The forward finally joined Madrid after years of speculation this summer. Since arriving at the club the forward had a slow start but finally seemed to have hit the ground running. He has scored five goals in seven league matches.

Mbappe has operated as a striker considering Vinicius Jr has taken the left-wing role. Now in his absence, Ancelotti has only one option, Brazilian teenage sensation Endrick. Real don’t have a natural centre-forward besides the Brazilian.

But it’s doubtful that the Brazilian will get a nod in the starting lineup. The Italian can also use Jude Bellingham as a striker like last term. For the majority of the past season, 2023-24, the England international was utilised as a striker.

Ancelotti has enough options in his forward line. He shouldn’t have any problem replacing Mbappe with other Madrid’s attacking players.

Los Blancos had a sluggish start to the new campaign but they have since picked up steam. They are currently second in the standings with 17 points following their narrow win against Deportivo Alavés. They will next be seen in action on Sunday against their local rivals Atletico Madrid.
