The Frenchman has suffered a thigh injury.

Kylian Mbappé will not be with Real Madrid at the end of 2024. After suffering an injury during a 3-2 Champions League victory over Atalanta, Mbappé is the most recent player to be sidelined. Only twenty-six minutes after netting his 50th goal of the season, the Frenchman was forced to leave the field.

A day after the match, Real Madrid have verified and identified the injury. “Kylian Mbappé has been identified as having a thigh injury in his left leg after tests conducted on him [on December 12] by the Real Madrid medical department. His development will be tracked,” the club declared in a formal statement.

Mbappé was just beginning to rediscover his form when he sustained the injury. The 25-year-old scored in four of Real Madrid’s six games following the international break in November. He has already scored 12 goals this season in all competitions. If he hadn’t missed a penalty against Athletic Bilbao and Liverpool, his total would have increased by two.

For a brief period, the reigning Spanish and European champions will need to rely only on Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo, as they are going to miss Mbappé’s influence up front.

Mbappé is probably going to miss at least two Real Madrid games. When Los Blancos play Rayo Vallecano in LaLiga on December 14, the Frenchman won’t be available. Additionally, Mbappé is still a major doubt for the December 18 FIFA Intercontinental Cup final.

According to the reports, Real Madrid view Mbappé as “a longshot” to play in the cup final at Lusail Stadium in Doha, Qatar, against either Pachuca or Al Ahly. Only a week after sustaining the thigh injury, the France international would need to return to do so.

Ancelotti probably won’t be able to use the Frenchman until Real Madrid’s game against Sevilla on December 22. The home game is the year’s last match before Real Madrid’s delayed LaLiga matchup with Valencia on January 2.
