Los Blancos will travel to Manchester to face City in first-leg of the Champions League.

In the opening leg of Real Madrid’s Champions League play-off matchup with Manchester City, Jude Bellingham will be among seven players riding a disciplinary tightrope.

Next week, the Premier League champions and the Spanish team will face off in an effort to advance to the round of 16. Both teams had distinct league phases and ended up outside of the automatic qualifying spots.

Real Madrid narrowly missed out on an automatic berth for the knockout stages, while City barely made it after defeating Club Brugge on the last day. Additionally, Real will be worried about some of their best players’ discipline with only a few days until the game.

Seven Los Blancos players are currently balancing on a suspended tightrope. Bellingham received two bookings during the competition’s campaign, as did Luka Modric, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, and Endrick.

Additionally, those bookings continue over into the playoffs per UEFA regulations, with players receiving a one-match suspension for each additional yellow card. If any of them gets booked in the first leg at the Etihad next week, he will be absent from the pivotal second leg at the Bernabeu later this month.

Carlo Ancelotti is also in danger at the moment. The Italian tactician received two bookings during the league phase, and he will be suspended from the touchline if he receives another yellow card.

This follows Ancelotti’s declaration that he was not excited about the possibility of playing City again. He stated:

“City are more likely to win the Champions League, that’s the reality. We don’t like playing against City, but if we have to play City, we’ll do it, as we have in previous years.”

Real Madrid’s players face a real possibility of suspension, but City are not even nearly in the same boat. Ruben Dias is the only player with two bookings and will be suspended if he receives another against the Spanish team.
