How much will the FIFA Club World Cup winner receive?

The competition will see 32 teams participate in the event.

FIFA announced on Wednesday that the champions of the 32-team Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States this year, will get up to $125 million.

A $1 billion prize fund for the June 14–July 13 competition was revealed earlier this month by the World Football organizing body, which is noteworthy given the current state of club financial oversight.

“FIFA will neither retain any funding for this tournament, as all revenues will be distributed to club football, nor will it touch FIFA’s reserves, which are set aside for global football development through the 211 FIFA Member Associations,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino said in a statement.

According to a model FIFA established with the European Club Association, clubs like Manchester City and Real Madrid will receive a larger percentage than smaller clubs, with each of the 32 clubs receiving roughly half of the $1 billion in total. The amount per club will be determined by sporting and commercial criteria.

With an overall pot of $125 million available, an additional $475 million will be given out based on performance in the Club World Cup, meaning the team with the most victories over a possible seven games will pocket more money.

In an effort to promote the sport’s worldwide expansion, FIFA has also launched a significant solidarity investment program. In order to ensure long-term investment in football across its 211 Member Associations, the organization will not keep any of the event’s proceeds, and its reserves will not be touched.

With a shorter period off in between seasons due to the redesigned Club World Cup, many players and coaches, notably England captain Harry Kane, have expressed worry over player welfare.

“Of course it’s another summer where you don’t really have a break,” Kane said this week. “I think we’re getting used to it. There’s nothing really we can do about it.”

The Bayern Munich striker said he had high hopes for the FIFA Club World Cup event, however, telling FIFA.com that his goal was, “To win it. We’re one of the best teams in the world, without a doubt, so every tournament we go into, the idea is to win.”
