The England international will join Los Blancos in time for the Club World Cup.
Liverpool have consented to allow Trent Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid when the transfer market opens on Sunday. This deal is valued at £10 million for the Premier League winners.
This week, Madrid resumed their negotiations with Liverpool to sign the defender ahead of the Club World Cup, which begins on June 14. The Spanish powerhouses first offered an £850,000 agreement to sign him before his Liverpool contract expires on June 30. That was turned down.
But now, an agreement has been reached whereby Real would give Liverpool a one-time payment of €10 million in exchange for terminating the full-back’s contract 29 days early.
Additionally, they will pay Alexander-Arnold’s salary for June. For Liverpool, that implies the entire agreement is worth €10 million. On Sunday, the defender’s registration will be moved to Madrid.
If Liverpool had agreed to Madrid’s initial offer in late December, they may have made £20 million from the sale of the defender. However, under Arne Slot, the team’s quest for the championship was given top priority by the club, and Alexander-Arnold was crucial to the club’s success.
Alexander-Arnold is anticipated to be replaced by Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong. The latter is likely to sign a contract with Liverpool for £30 million.
Additionally, the club and Leverkusen are still negotiating a club record deal for Florian Wirtz, a German international. The £45 million left-back Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth is also attracting interest from the Reds.
The Premier League champions are also anticipated to make a move for another striker, particularly if Darwin Núñez or Luis Díaz decide to leave this summer. Both Liverpool attackers are drawing interest from Saudi Arabian teams.
Meanwhile, in Madrid, the Club World Cup competition will signal the start of Xabi Alonso’s managerial career. As they look for a quick fix for this season’s lacklustre performance, club management wants to start the new era off right while also giving Alonso as much time as possible to get along with his new team.
Since this is the first time the new-look Club World Cup will be held, Madrid are reportedly eager to make history as the tournament’s first winners. They think Alexander-Arnold will increase their chances of winning.
