The Portuguese player has made a major contribution since joining the club.
If there is one Manchester United player who deserves the 2024-25 UEFA Europa League trophy more than anyone, that is Bruno Fernandes. The playmaker has been United’s most impactful player ever since he joined them. This season, he has also transcended himself into a goalscorer.
His influence can be witnessed by his impressive statistics in all competitions this campaign. Now the midfielder will have another shot at lifting the Europa League tonight.
His stats in the tournament speak volumes for the player, who has been the club’s backbone in every game. He has contributed big numbers to the Europa League history.
The Portuguese star has scored 27 goals and assisted 19 times, which ranks him third and first respectively in the tournament history. Moreover, he has 46 goals involvement and has created 158 chances, while 110 of them were from open play.
These numbers rank him first and second, which indicates how heavily United have been dependent on his work and his contribution to the club ever since he joined them.
In the knockout stages, he has delivered big numbers as well. He has 19 goals and 13 assists, which means he has contributed to 32 goal involvements. Meanwhile, he has created 94 chances and 66 from open play.
Since joining United in early 2020, Fernandes has essentially taken the creative load, and 2024–25 has been no exception.
Moreover, he has been among the Premier League’s top three most-relied-upon creative players for each of his five complete seasons.
Even though United are currently at their lowest throughout this time, it’s already Fernandes’ second-best return in a single season.
However, United haven’t often reached the heights that a player like Fernandes deserves, or else the Europa League wouldn’t have become “his” competition.
Now he has another chance to lift something significant with the club. It has been so many years since he joined them. He hasn’t won anything major yet. The Europa League trophy provides him with just that perfect opportunity.
